Spanish
Español at Mora
At Mora Primary and Nursery School, we deliver a challenging and creative Spanish curriculum that develops a genuine interest and curiosity of the language. Learning an additional language provides the children at Mora with a valuable educational, social and cultural experience. It helps them to develop communication skills and extends their knowledge of how language works. It also provides children with an additional perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand their own cultures and those of others.
In EYFS and KS1, children learn various Spanish songs to help them build vocabulary. Children from years Year 3 to Year 6 are taught Spanish by our Spanish teachers. We use the Language Angels Scheme of Work and resources to support us in the teaching of Spanish.
We use a range of strategies to assess what skills and knowledge the children have attained each term including the following:
- End of unit assessments in Key Stage 2
- Book looks
- Pupil Voice
- Regular feedback each lesson

Pen Pal Project
We were excited to receive a special visit from one of our pen pal friends from El Drac School in Valencia, Spain. This visit was a wonderful opportunity to bring our long-distance friendships to life, as our visitor kindly delivered our latest batch of pen pal letters in person. To celebrate, we held a short assembly where we shared some of the letters and learned about Spanish and British vocabulary, highlighting the similarities and fun differences between our languages. Our guest also enjoyed a tour of the school, giving them a glimpse into our daily routines and school life. It was a fantastic afternoon of cultural exchange, connection and learning!
