Science
Science at Mora
At Mora Primary and Nursery School, we recognise the importance of science in every aspect of daily life. We deliver a hands on, enquiry based science curriculum; one that ignites curiosity and creates a sense of awe and wonder, while developing our children’s scientific concept of their world.
The teaching of science is driven by our science principles:
-
Foster Curiosity: Every science lesson is an opportunity to develop a sense of awe, wonder and curiosity.
- Prioritise Practical: We maximise knowledge and skills through pupil led, hands-on exploration, giving real life examples and using the outdoor environment to contextualise learning where ever possible.
- Encourage Collaboration: Working scientifically promotes team work and collaboration where we can learn from one another.
- Promote talk and deeper thinking: We value talk time and quality questioning to challenge theories and further our understanding.
- Be Scientific: We are exposed to and learn to use scientific vocabulary confidently. It is always modelled by staff as well as displayed in the environment.
- Embraces resilience: We make breakthroughs because we have the opportunity to discover through trial and error.
By the end of KS2, our children will have a strong understanding of the world around them, and will have acquired specific skills and knowledge to help them to:
- Think scientifically
- Gain an understanding of scientific processes
- Gain an understanding of the uses and implications of science
