Home Learning
At Mora Primary, we understand the importance of supporting your child's education beyond the classroom. Our home learning tasks are designed to reinforce the key skills the children acquire during school hours. We encourage parents to take an active role in their child's learning journey, ensuring home learning is completed each week. Together, we can foster a love for learning that will benefit the children now and in the future.
Reading
Home Reading Book
All children will have a home reading book. Children who have moved onto chapter books are encouraged to bring this book to school every day to read during class reading time. These books will be updated weekly (for picture books) or when needed (for longer chapter books).
Reception - Year 2: Big Cats
Big Cats is an online platform, where teachers set a book for children to read each week. The book chosen will match the phonics sounds the children are learning in school that week.
Years 3-6: Bug Club
Bug Club is an online platform, where teachers set a book for children to read each week, with inbuilt comprehension questions to support understanding. It is vital that the children practise their comprehension skills by answering the questions to the best of their ability.
Maths
Maths home learning focuses on mental maths skills which enable children to quickly recall key maths facts. This supports children to cope with increasingly difficult mathematical problems during maths lessons and in real life. Once all of these maths facts have been "learned", they need to be practised regularly to ensure they can be recited quickly when needed.
Reception: Maths Challenge
Each week, the teacher will set a maths challenge based on the maths learning that has taken place during the week. This can be accessed in the Reception year group page.
Years 1-2: NUMBOTS
NUMBOTS is an online game focusing on the recall and understanding of number bonds and addition and subtraction facts - critical foundations in maths.
Years 2-6: Times Tables Rock Stars
Times Table Rock Stars is an online set of games focusing on the quick recall of multiplication tables.
Spelling
Each week, children in Years 1-6 have a spelling test (usually on a Friday). You can find your child's spelling list on the year group pages here.
