Design and Technology
D.T. at Mora
At Mora Primary and Nursery School, we deliver a Design and Technology (D&T) curriculum that is relevant in our rapidly changing world and one that empowers our children to exercise their creativity through designing and making. We intend to encourage our children to become problem solvers who can work creatively on single and shared projects. Our D&T curriculum will inspire our children to think independently, innovatively and develop creative, procedural and technical understanding.
Our D&T curriculum allows children to apply the knowledge and skills learned in other subjects, particularly Maths, Science, Computing and Art to real life contexts. Children are taught to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding in order to create products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Evaluation is an integral part of the design process and allows children to adapt and improve their product.
As part of the D&T curriculum at Mora, children are exposed to a wide range of media, including textiles, woodwork and food. To teach our children about food sources, we have regular gardening sessions where our children learn about where food comes from and the process of growing food. They then use the food that they have grown in school for a cooking and nutrition themed DT day. Children also begin to understand the importance of healthy food choices.
