Mora Primary & Nursery School

BASE

Streetz Ahead are now based at Mora Primary School two days a week.  We provide children with opportunities to explore and develop a deeper understanding in physical and mental health. The project is called BASE.

The BASE (Body and Soul Education) – will provide children and young people access to whole-body education and learning towards becoming physically and mentally fit for life. Through mentoring, play, therapy, selfcare, mindfulness, movement, dance and meditation, the BASE will provide preventative and restorative measures in a safe, nurturing and engaging way, to maximize every child’s capability.

Children can go to the BASE space throughout the day to talk about how they are feeling with the BASE team. At Mora, we have a BASE Supervisor and a BASE therapist that work alongside each other to provide the children a safe space to talk about mental health.

Why is BASE useful?

We all have good days and bad days. Every day, we face challenges and new situations. This can trigger many emotions and sometimes, we do not know how to deal with how we are feeling. BASE offers a safe space for the school community to talk through how they are feeling and help find ways to be able to cope with life’s many challenges.

BASE is there to build confidence and self-esteem through different approaches, tailored to the needs of each individual.

What does BASE do?

The BASE team work with children one-to-one or in small groups, giving regular support for pupils who need it.

Children can also book a short appointment to talk about any problems or worries they have – this is called Touching BASE.

How does BASE work with adults?

BASE provides support and advice for parents and carers, as well as teachers and school staff. Phone the school office and leave a message for the BASE team if you would like support.

BASE always gets agreement from parents or carers before they support a child through one-to-one therapy. They also meet with parents and carers regularly to keep them updated and make sure they are involved from the start.

Any questions?

If you have any questions, please contact Kwan Chan, our BASE Supervisor. Mahmoud works on Mondays and Tuesdays and you can either arrange to meet him at the school or get in touch via kwan@streetzahead.org
